Country: Western Sahara
NWA 15051 was found by a nomad in Western Sahara in 2021. The finder sold the rock to a Moroccan broker who informed Steve that he was certain it was both a lunar and a “new find” (not paired with a previously classified specimen). The broker extended an invitation to Steve to travel to the find site and hunt for potentially more of this meteorite. Steve accepted the invitation and took off, with just a few days notice, to hunt near the Algerian border in one of the most desolate parts of the planet. After a week long hunt, the team of four failed to locate any more specimens. There is only about 70g of this rock available after the 20g donation for classification and after saw losses.
We’ve included “in the field” photos from the Nov. 2021 expedition to the find site in Western Sahara. This listing is for a slice from the main mass pictured in those photos.
