Description:
The first President of South Africa Nelson Mandela is the subject of the gilded coin-like token. Mandela is one of the most recognizable politics of the world despite he died in 2013. He is known for his fight against apartheid and the human rights in South Africa as well as for the 27-years term in prison for his revolution acting. Mandela was imprisoned at the Robben Island. After releasing he took part in the first general president election and won. The relief portrait of Nelson Mandela is depicted in the center with his full name placed above it and his personal signature below. The opposite side of the piece depicts the map of Robben Island in the center and the semicircular inscription stating “A Long Walk to Freedom”. The name of the place and the dates of Mandela’s serving there are minted along the lower rim of the coin.
